Jacot is back, defender Hungarians
After a long injury, Lionel Jacot is back. The winner of the 2015 European Footgolf Tournament won the Swiss national championships one week ago, and now he won his first international tournament in Hungary for a long time. Five Hungarians finished in the top 10.
The Hungarian Open of the 2017 European Footgolf Tour was the tenth stage of the tournament. Almost one hundred players have arrived to Kisoroszi, Hungary to compete at the country’s fifth international tournament, which has changed it’s name for Traditional Footgolf Cup from this year.
After the first day it seemed, the Hungarian Bence Bacskai (-11) and the Slovakian Tomas Bartko (-10) were going to decide the first place. But the Swiss Lionel Jacot, who was 11th after the first day, had a spurt like no one. He has beaten the course record (now it is -12), and finished first with the overall result of -16.
Bacskai had the chance to beat him on the last two holes, but finished the two days with -14. That meant, he had to play a playoff for the second place against Tomas Bartko, where the Slovakian performed better.
Lionel Jacot won his last international tournament in 2015 in the UK. After a long injury, he is back, after winning the Swiss national championships, he won an international tournament again.
Susi Berg (NOR) won the ladies, while Samuel Horváth (SVK) the junior competition. The senior category was won by Róbert Tajtyi (HUN).
For the first time in international footgolf history, the organizers had a prize for the best player in the handicap system counted after the best results seen on the World Tour ranking list. Alberto Lombardi (ITA) became the first ever winner of an international handicap tournament.
The team competition won by Hungary, like last year (there was a playoff among four (!) Hungarians for the seventh place). Slovakia became second, while Switzerland third.
The EFT ends this year in Portugal in November with the Grand Final. The next Traditional Footgolf Cup will be held from 18th May to 20th May in 2018.
